Music of the Revolution

The Maat Saxophone Quartet's programme proposes a sonic journey through the music of revolution, crossing aesthetic and geographical borders to celebrate freedom, resistance and collective identity. Starting with the Tribute to Carlos Paredes, a symbol of individual expression in times of oppression, the repertoire traverses landmark works such as Fernando Lopes-Graça's Canções Heróicas, adapted for saxophone quartet by Daniel Ferreira. In addition to classics such as Grândola, Vila Morena or Acordai, it also includes Blackbird, associated with the civil rights struggle, in an arrangement specially conceived for the Maat Saxophone Quartet by composer Camiel Jansen, broadening the perspective to an international context of revolution. The programme culminates with Amor Gigante, by José Mário Branco, a work inspired by various string quartets, such as that of Maurice Ravel, whose iconic fourth movement closes the programme. More than a concert, this is a musical manifesto that seeks to interweave memory, art and freedom. On the days of the Música no Museu Cycle, the programme A Voz das Cores, from Antena 2, authored by Andrea Lupi, will be entirely dedicated to the concert and the works that can be visited at MAC/CCB.
