SEQUENCE:4
DESCRIPTION:The Maat Saxophone Quartet's programme proposes a sonic journe
y through the music of revolution\, crossing aesthetic and geographical bo
rders to celebrate freedom\, resistance and collective identity. Starting
with the Tribute to Carlos Paredes\, a symbol of individual expression in
times of oppression\, the repertoire traverses landmark works such as Fern
ando Lopes-Graça's Canções Heróicas\, adapted for saxophone quartet by
Daniel Ferreira. In addition to classics such as Grândola\, Vila Morena
or Acordai\, it also includes Blackbird\, associated with the civil rights
struggle\, in an arrangement specially conceived for the Maat Saxophone Q
uartet by composer Camiel Jansen\, broadening the perspective to an intern
ational context of revolution. The programme culminates with Amor Gigante\
, by José Mário Branco\, a work inspired by various string quartets\, su
ch as that of Maurice Ravel\, whose iconic fourth movement closes the prog
ramme. More than a concert\, this is a musical manifesto that seeks to int
erweave memory\, art and freedom. On the days of the Música no Museu Cycl
e\, the programme A Voz das Cores\, from Antena 2\, authored by Andrea Lup
i\, will be entirely dedicated to the concert and the works that can be vi
sited at MAC/CCB. Guided tour by João Mateus at 3:30 pm.
