About the event
An unmissable annual tradition returns to the Grand Auditorium of the Centro Cultural de Belém, uniting the talent and energy of the meeting of the Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa with the Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa. Following the success of previous celebrations, the two orchestras invite the audience on an epic journey from darkness to light, under the direction of Pedro Carneiro. The programme begins with the world premiere of a new orchestral work by the young composer Marco Pereira (CCB commission). Then, in homage to the bicentenary of Beethoven's death, we will hear one of the most striking moments of the opera Fidelio, in the voice of the extraordinary Portuguese tenor Luís Gomes, winner of the prestigious Zarzuela Don Plácido Domingo Ferrer prizes and the Audience Prize at Operalia. After the interval, the OCP and the JOP delve into an emotional trajectory, from the depths of pain and tragedy to jubilant triumph: Gustav Mahler's monumental Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp minor is a masterpiece that transcends late Romanticism, serving as a bridge between the sensibility of the 19th century and the avant-gardes of 20th-century modern music. Pre-concert talk by Pedro Carneiro at 4:30 PM. El Corte Inglés supports the CCB Classical Music Mediation Programme.
