Ad Gloriam Dei: Cantatas by Bach, Scarlatti and Stradella

About the event

Two of Bach's best cantatas, composed in Weimar (1714) and Leipzig (1726), respectively, are here combined with impressive works by Scarlatti and Stradella. The distance between the austerity of Lutheran piety and the ardent "emotionalism" of the Mediterranean may seem insurmountable, however Bach so admired the compositions of his Neapolitan colleagues that he made his own "parody" of them in his output. In this concert, Divino Sospiro and Ann Hallenberg demonstrate equal mastery in both idioms. Pre-concert talk by Massimo Mazzeo at 7:30 PM. El Corte Inglés supports the CCB Classical Music Mediation Program.
