Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 'Eroica'

About the event
Beethoven's 'Eroica' marked a historic turning point by elevating the symphony to a large-scale epic drama that stages the heroic designs of struggle, crisis and triumphant overcoming. It added to the score the affirmation of ideals, substantiating narrative conceptions. In short, it transformed the way music is heard and understood. Completed two years later, in 1806, the Violin Concerto did not have the same immediate impact. Several decades had to pass, but it became a warhorse of the violin repertoire. Leading the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa will be two great violinists: Enrico Onofri, this time as conductor, a role in which he also excels, and Sergej Krylov, who lends his refined virtuosity to the solo part. Pre-concert talk by Rui Campos Leitão at 4:30 PM. El Corte Inglés supports the CCB Classical Music Mediation Programme.
