About the event
Ângela Ferreira's practice, a central figure in the Portuguese art scene, integrates installation, video, photography, and sculpture. Born in Maputo (Mozambique) and trained in Sculpture at the University of Cape Town during the apartheid era, her biography intertwines with the themes that run through her work. The exhibition at MAC/CCB traces a path from her early works in the 1990s to her most recent creations, revealing the artist's investigation into facts, infrastructures, characters, and architectures linked to colonisation. Her projects not only comment on and update the persistent effects of colonialism but also highlight modes of resistance to this reality. Ângela Ferreira is recognised as one of the first artists in Portugal to openly confront and question the country's colonial past. Curated by Nuria Enguita
