The Choir – Mission: Democracy

About the event

Multidisciplinary Concert — Premiere «Freedom begins when every voice counts, when not all voices speak the same language, but all count. The future is built with many voices and many hands: democracy begins when all voices can be heard.» Suzana Francês If we are made of the places we pass through, being free is being able to choose one's own path. Inspired by the book collection Missão: Democracia, Suzana Francês presents a musical journey across different cultures and ways of seeing the world, where word and rhythm intersect to reflect on identity, home, and memory. The songs are born from simple and urgent questions: What does it mean to have a voice? What is my place? What happens when different cultures meet? In a time when borders shift and societies transform, Suzana Francês invites the audience to imagine a space of encounter and affirmation, made of many voices, many rhythms, and many hands. Driven by the diversity of African cultures, Suzana transforms the stage into a living place of assembly and collective listening, where the Afro-musical matrix runs through the entire composition. A journey that challenges the audience to reflect on the spirit of life in democracy: creating together, listening to the other, and ensuring no one is left out of the conversation. Accessibility: Session with Portuguese Sign Language interpretation on April 25, at 11:30 AM.
