About the event
"Tocando Portugal" is the name of the multimedia concert conceived and performed by the trio Rumos Ensemble. The first volume of this project premiered in 2016 and was presented in 22 countries across four continents, in a total of nearly one hundred concerts, making it the most international Portuguese classical project of the last decade. Continuing the work consolidated in the projects "Tocando José Afonso" and "Tocando Carlos Paredes", and marking the trio's 10 years of activity, Rumos Ensemble presents, in 2026, with the support of the Direção-Geral das Artes, the multimedia concert "Tocando Portugal — Volume II". With a renewed look at the country, new arrangements of regional music and new footage, the show celebrates Portugal and its musical, natural and architectural heritage. The musical works, which now gain new life, were selected from fundamental historical and ethnological collections and archives: the original recordings of Michel Giacometti; the sound, musical and visual archives of RTP, the National Museum of Ethnology, the Fado Museum and the Xarabanda Association (Madeira). The new arrangements are by violinist and composer Anne Victorino d'Almeida and pianist and composer João Vasco. In this multimedia concert, the works recreated for piano, violin and clarinet trio dialogue on stage with previously unseen footage by João Vasco — also an award-winning filmmaker and videographer — captured across all Portuguese regions. "Tocando Portugal" invites you on a journey through our memory, heritage and traditions, crossing the identity and uniqueness of Portuguese regions with contemporary national creation. Rumos Ensemble — created by João Vasco, Anne Victorino d'Almeida and Luís Gomes, musicians with prominent national and international careers — premiered the first volume of the multimedia concert "Tocando Portugal" in 2015, followed by the projects "Tocando José Afonso" and "Tocando Carlos Paredes". Eleven years after its creation, Rumos Ensemble has more than 100 concerts in 23 countries across four continents and is one of the most international Portuguese classical ensembles of the last decade. Continuing the work consolidated in the projects "Tocando José Afonso" and "Tocando Carlos Paredes", and marking the trio's 10 years of activity, it presents in 2026 — with the support of the Direção-Geral das Artes — the multimedia concert "Tocando Portugal - Volume II". With a renewed look at the country, new arrangements of regional music and new footage, the show celebrates Portugal and its musical, natural and architectural heritage. The project will be presented nationally and internationally, in major urban centers and less densely populated territories, promoting territorial cohesion and a decentralized cultural offering. The new arrangements of the musical works are by violinist and composer Anne Victorino d'Almeida and pianist and composer João Vasco. João Vasco - piano, composition, video, image — divides his time between the stage, composition, photography and video. As a piano soloist or in chamber ensembles he has performed in more than 30 countries across 4 continents. He has released the CDs: "Alémfado", for solo piano; "Tocando Portugal" by the trio Rumos Ensemble; "2016" for trio with piano; "20fingers — from Mozart to Chico Buarque", piano 4 hands; "Sinédoque" for piano and recited voice with Ivo Canelas. From 2016 onwards João Vasco has complemented performance with musical creation and since then has composed orchestral works, a ballet, symphonic overtures, works for solo instruments and chamber music, premiered and/or recorded by prominent national performers. As a photographer or videographer he has been awarded at national and international film and video festivals. In 2022 he published his first photography book "Overbooking", a selection of travel records between 2014 and 2019. In the musical projects he has conceived over the last decade, he progressively brings together all his artistic skills, establishing himself as a creator of "music and image". He is president of the board of "Oblíquo Associação Cultural". www.joaovasco.com Anne Victorino d'Almeida - violin, composition — composer, violinist and teacher at the Escola Artística de Música do Conservatório Nacional, she was a founding member of Quarteto Lopes-Graça and Quarteto Camões and is the violinist of Rumos Ensemble. As an author, her work stands out for its versatility, spanning a hundred chamber and symphonic titles. In 2019 she released the double CD "A Sombra dos Sentidos" with chamber works of her own, receiving the Harvey Philips Awards in Iowa (USA) for the work Contos&Improvisos; in 2022, the album "Trilogia" with concertante works, and in 2025, the disc Importuna Razão with chamber works. A significant number of her works has been recorded by various renowned national and international performers. www.annevictorinoalmeida.com Luís Gomes - clarinet and bass clarinet — graduated from the Conservatório Nacional, E.S.M.L., Rotterdam Conservatory and Universidade Nova de Lisboa
