Ângela Ferreira

About the event

The practice of Ângela Ferreira, a central figure in the Portuguese art scene, integrates installation, video, photography, and sculpture. Born in Maputo (Mozambique) and trained in Sculpture at the University of Cape Town during the apartheid period, her biography intertwines with the themes that run through her work. The exhibition at MAC/CCB traces a path from her early works of the 1990s to her most recent creations, revealing the artist's investigation into facts, infrastructures, characters, and architectures linked to colonization. Her projects not only comment on and update the persistent effects of colonialism but also highlight modes of resistance to this reality. Ângela Ferreira is recognized as one of the first artists in Portugal to openly confront and question the country's colonial past. Curated by Nuria Enguita
