Carmen by Bizet

About the event

Immediately after its publication in 1845, Carmen, the novella by Prosper Mérimée, was labeled shocking and scandalous. Thirty years later, Georges Bizet premiered "his" Carmen in Paris; since then, it has become one of the most frequently staged operas worldwide. The story of the gypsy who does not hesitate to die in the name of freedom and love remains one of the most impressive and enduring contemporary myths about the mysterious nature of Woman. Over the years, Carmen, revisited by countless directors, has gained new facets and interpretations. However, the essential element remains: Carmen, the fatal anti-heroine, remains the unyielding center of all versions. Pre-concert talk 30 min. before each performance. El Corte Inglés supports the CCB Classical Music Mediation Program.
