Peregrinação Beethoven: do Apogeu à Grande Fuga

About the event

In January 2025, the João Roiz Ensemble, in collaboration with Alexandre Delgado, began the Peregrinação Beethoven 2025—2027, evoking the 200th anniversary of the death of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770—1827). This national project celebrates the life and work of the composer and his contribution to European humanism. Over three years, the Ensemble performs the complete chamber music of Beethoven — string trios, quartets and quintets — across the country. The initiative, unprecedented in Portugal, offers the public a deep knowledge of the composer's work and thought. The concerts are commented live by Alexandre Delgado, who dialogues with the audience, contextualizing the works historically and aesthetically. The final concert, at Centro Cultural de Belém, marks the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's death, with the performance of the Quartet Op. 59 No. 3 and the Great Fugue Op. 133, works of extraordinary strength and transcendence. Concert commented by Alexandre Delgado. El Corte Inglés supports the CCB's Classical Music Mediation Programme.
