About the event
Shortly after its publication in 1845, Carmen, the novella by Prosper Mérimée, was labelled shocking and scandalous. Thirty years later, Georges Bizet premieres "his" Carmen in Paris and, ever since, it has been one of the most frequently staged operas worldwide. The story of the gypsy who does not hesitate to die in the name of freedom and love remains one of the most impressive and unchanging contemporary myths dealing with the mysterious nature of Woman.
