About the event

Composer, violinist and singer, Caroline Shaw is one of the most recognized figures in contemporary music. In 2013, she became the youngest winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music, an award that boosted a career marked by collaborations with some of the most prominent performers and ensembles today. In this program, the Ahora Quintet dedicates itself entirely to her music, revealing different facets of her creative language. In Blueprint and Plan & Elevation, references to architecture, space and construction serve as a starting point for writing of great sonic imagination. Entr’acte, inspired by a quartet by Joseph Haydn, reinterprets his classical language through a contemporary perspective. Punctum is inspired by a chorale by Johann Sebastian Bach, exploring the timbral and expressive possibilities of a simple chord. Between echoes of the past and a deeply contemporary language, Ahora Quintet and Caroline Shaw invite us to rediscover tradition through renewed, curious listening, open to transformation. Guided tour by João Mateus at 3:30 pm (half an hour before the concert). On the days of the Música no Museu Cycle, the program A Voz das Cores, on Antena 2, authored by Andrea Lupi, will be entirely dedicated to the concert and the works that can be visited at MAC/CCB.
