About the event

Fidelio was Beethoven's only opera and went through several versions – the final one, which we will hear, premiered in Vienna in 1814. It is an opera with spoken dialogue that mirrors the liberating wave that swept across Europe after the French Revolution. It tells the story of the love and heroism of Leonore, who disguises herself as Fidelio to free her husband Florestan, imprisoned for political reasons. In the end, justice and love prevail.
