DESCRIPTION:The Disappearing Act is the first solo creation by Yinka Esi G
 raves. The artist draws on her experience as an Afro-Caribbean flamenco da
 ncer to explore questions of invisibility\, absence and representation. On
  stage\, the figure of La Lala proposes an experience in which camouflage 
 and disappearance function as forms of resistance. Through dance\, live mu
 sic\, text and live video\, the piece presents itself as an experimental f
 lamenco work inspired by the Ghanaian Concert Party tradition. This creati
 on features guitarist Raúl Cantizano\, drummer Donna Thompson and singer 
 Antonia Fernández\, who contribute to an artistic language between flamen
 co\, jazz\, hip hop and improvisation. Developed during artistic residenci
 es in the United Kingdom\, Spain and France\, the work premiered in 2023 a
 t the Festival Flamenco de Nîmes and has been shown at reference festival
 s and venues such as GREC Festival de Barcelona\, Festival d'Avignon\, Tan
 z im August in Berlin and Chaillot Théâtre National de la Danse in Paris
 . In 2024\, it was distinguished by critic Claire Bishop as one of the ten
  best shows of the year for Artforum magazine.
